I love this little gadget! I rarely need help opening jars, but pickle jars and big olive jars (not the little ones) are impossible for me and drive up my husband's blood pressure, so he told me to get a jar opener. I didn't have room for one of those big stands like my mother in law has, and they're about $100, so I was really excited to find this little automatic jar opener. And it works really well! As others have said, it's very loud, but unless you have a sleeping baby to worry about, it's not a big deal.

There are only two buttons- one to open the jar, and one to release the lid. When I got it, I was so excited about trying it that I didn't read the full instructions- just the quick start guide. The quick start guide does indeed tell you how the machine actually operates (just open it fully, set it on the jar lid, and press the button- the outer arms grip the jar while the inner arms twist the lid). Well, my husband grabbed the jar as an additional safety measure, but neither of us thought to grip the machine. The quick start guide didn't say anything about holding anything, so....

We actually were not able to get this on Amazon but got from another store, so I wanted to just warn those interested in this particular brewer.

Here is the good: Both bagged and loose tea brews in this easily. It has a great fine filter that can accommodate lose tea and if you do like a fine ground tea. But you can also just toss a bag into the filter and it honestly won't affect the outcome of the strength as well. We also like the fact that the carafe fits under the drip and when you are done brewing, you can "fold" the dripping end back over to where you pour the water into. This helps with drips after the brew. The drips, instead of dropping on the counter, go back into the pot. Also, something you can not see from the picture, on the right hand side of the pot, there is a transparent window to allow you to see how high to fill the brewer with water. This is another awesome bonus especially if you have a filter on your tap and can just use your sprayer from the tap to fill - which is what I do. I truly enjoy the brew from this pot. I feel like I do get a very good amount of brew from the leaves. I upgraded from a previous pot and the former pot I would brew the bag 2 times because there was so much tea left in the bag. With this pot, there is no tea left in the bag. I LOVE that.

So here is the bad. The carafe is glass. This would not be a bad thing if the glass was thick and sturdy but it honestly feels like the same glass from science class. Remember doing science experiments with Erinmeyer flasks and round bottom flasks? It feels exactly like that kind of glass. We have had this brewer and carafe for less than a month and the handle on the carafe has already cracked. It has not broken off yet, but it is really just a matter of time. The Ice Ball Maker was easy to use. Just fill the bottom of the Ice Ball Maker with water. I had to try it a few times to judge how much water to put. But, after a few trial and errors, things went smoothly.

Take the top and match up the little groves on the side. Next press the top down slowly onto the bottom, which is holding the water. By pressing the top down inside the bottom, it pushes the water up into the top half of the ball shapes. Then just stick in the freezer.

After they have had time to freeze, remove and take the top off. And there you have them! The ice balls release easily and are ready for use in a variety of drinks.

They look very pretty in a glass and last longer than regular ice, which helps in not watering down your drink. While I use mine mostly in iced tea and juice, they can be used in a variety of drinks. They are perfect for entertaining and make great looking party drinks! Everyone will want to know how you got the perfectly round ice that isn't watering their drinks down!

My next idea to try them with is fruit juice! I think they would make a great frozen fruit pop. The top tray has a little hole that a popsicle stick can be inserted in. I purchased this to go with my Mr. Coffee BVMC-FM1 20-Ounce Frappe Maker, since I was using so much ice.

The best way to use this is to turn it on when you need to make ice, unless you are going to need a lot in a hurry - then you can freeze the cubes ahead of time.

1) How much ice does it make?
Well, each time it makes a batch, it makes between one and two cups ... that's every 6-10 minutes. So in an hour, it will make 6-10 cups of ice.

2) How much ice does it hold?
I was able to empty 2 trays into a gallon freezer bag (barely), so I'd say that it holds about 1/2 gallon of ice before it automatically shuts off.

3) Do you need to keep it turned on?
You can, but you don't have to. Put the ice you've made into your freezer and turn it off. When you aren't going to use it for awhile, you drain any extra water out so that you can be sure your water to make the ice is fresh and healthy.

4) Will it keep ice frozen?
Actually, Yes. I don't know for how long, but the sides seem stay cool, and it is well insulated, so the ice I made the night before was "still" ice in the morning. The ice sits in a basket over the water supply, so if there is any melting, it drips down and is remade into ice again. I suggest for long-term use, that you simply remove the ice and place it in your freezer.

5) Do you need anything special?
No. You take it out of the box, wash the parts, add water, and turn it on. I'm using purified water, but that's for flavor, NOT because it's required. Read more ›
